Ionia Community Library card holders will now be able to access songs from the Sony Music Entertainment catalog at no charge! You can download up to THREE Sony Music tracks in mp3 format per week from Freegal Music, and you'll only need a library card number and PIN to get started.

Why is it called "Freegal"? It's a combination of words explaining what it is: free and legal music! Freegal is a downloadable music service, similar to iTunes and Amazon MP3, that gives patrons access to hundreds of thousands of songs, over 100 genres of music, and more than 50 record labels, all without having to download software or worry about digital rights management (DRM) issues.  Access is limited to Ionia Community Library patrons.

· Download free music!  To access Freegal Music you will need your library card  number and pin number.  Once you have your pin number and a library card in good standing  let the downloading of free music begin!

 

· If you are not currently an ICL library card holder and reside in our library district (City of Ionia, Ionia Public School District or Easton Township) stop in during library hours and apply for your free library card and pin number.

 

· If you are already an ICL library patron: The pin number for Freegal is the same pin number you use to log into your account or order library materials online. 

 

 

 

 

· If you currently don’t have a pin number: Click on the “My Account” icon, enter your library card number and you will be prompted to set-up your pin number. 

 

· Forgot your pin number?:  Click on the “My Account” icon enter your library card number and click on “Forgot Your Pin Number”, enter your library card number when prompted and an email will be sent to the email address you have on file at the library with instructions on how to reset your password.

 

· Forgot your pin number and don’t have an email address:  Stop in or call ICL and our staff can assist you on how to reset your pin number

 

· All music is free and you get to keep it forever - no due dates!

 

· Songs download to any computer and can be transferred to any MP3 compatible device.

 

· Freegal has hundreds of thousands of songs available for download.

 

· Library users have up to 3 downloads per week.  Your counter will set back to zero each week.

Freegal Tips:

· Preview a song by clicking on the circular arrow to the left of a song.

 

· Download a song by clicking "Download Now" and then clicking "Save."

 

· IF YOU CLICK "DOWNLOAD NOW" AND CLICK CANCEL, YOU WILL STILL USE ONE OF YOUR WEEKLY DOWNLOADS.

 

· Recent Downloads: Once in a while, your Internet connection may time out and you might experience an incomplete or problem download. Freegal Music allows you to download previously downloaded songs again, without using up one of your weekly downloads. Visit the Recent Downloads section once you are logged into Freegal to learn more.

· Use the Smart Search box for suggestions when you know the name of the album, artist or song.  As you type into the search box, a list of possible artist names, track names or album names drop down from the search tool.  Click on one of the suggestions to access tracks from just that artist.  If you type in a word and hit enter without selecting a suggestion, the search results will include anything that has that word in the track, name or album.

 

· Search Freegal by genre and artists. (Bands that begin with "The" are indexed under "t")
